ARCADE VBS + Special request from Daniel Henderson
This week is VBS at Arcade and most of the pastors are involved in one way or another with VBS. Please pray for them as they work with the children.

Vic got to be a Rabbi for Monday and Tuesday and teach the children about the "Shema". The "Shema" is the verse in Deut 6:4 "Hear O Israel, the LORD, our God, the LORD is one." Also included in what the Rabbi taught the children was a little bit about showing God respect by wearing a head covering when in the synagogue, what the Torah is (first 5 books of the Bible, or the Law), and to listen to what people were saying about Jesus this week and ask God the Father if this information about Jesus is true.

Pray for the children and the workers at VBS this week, and our pastors as they continue to work at balancing their time between God, their family, and their job.

Thanks,
Vic and Guenther

Daniel's letter:

Dear Praying Friends,

Some of you have heard that one of my closest life-long friends, Pastor Gary Aldridge, has died. It appears he was murdered but the investigation continues. For 15 years, he served as Pastor of Thorington Road Baptist Church. His body was found Sunday morning at his home after he failed to show up at church. His wife has been in North Carolina caring for her ailing mother. Gary was asphyxiated and had been dead for several days. The news story can be found HERE .

..A special service will be held Wednesday for the Rev. Gary M. Aldridge, senior pastor of Thorington Road Baptist Church who was found dead at home Sunday.

Please pray for us as Rosemary and I fly to Montgomery, AL to help officiate the service on Thursday morning-- that God would use us to bring comfort and grace to his wife Jan, the church family and the community around Montgomery.

At the same time, we will be missing some important events here in Minnesota for which we are sorry. Strategic Renewal is involved in the national convention of the Evangelical Free Church of America, held at Grace Church. We are hosting a pastor’s luncheon on Friday. Pray that I will make it back in time and that God will help us as we recruit extra help for these days, in my absence.

Thank you for your partnership in prayer.

Please Pray for Pastor Jake's Sermon Preparation and Presentation on Sunday
God has clearly brought us into unity on what he is calling us as a church to do and be about. This is nothing new, this is what the church has always been about, is about, and will always be about. Isn't this exciting? God's vision for the church has never changed and yet he has brought us along, re-clarified his vision in our context, and given us all we need to accomplish his purposes.

In summary: Arcade Church is about connection with God and others. We believe in a triune God (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) and just as God exists in connection with each other we are to live in the context of the trinity ourselves. We have been invited to connect with God the Father and to be a part of his family with the Son and the Holy Spirit. This is the most important and vital connection of our lives. It is through this connection that we are connected to one another. This connection with one another is as brothers and sisters within the same family of God. Together as we are connected to God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit and one another we reach out and connect with our world as servants. This is the mission of the church. Through our identity in the family of God and our connection with one another we will connect with our world in a profound and impacting manner. Does this get anyone excited?

Pastor Jake will be teaching these truths this Sunday from Deuteronomy 6:4-6, Matthew 22:34-40, and Matthew 28:19-20. This is what life is all about and this is the lifestyle of the church, the people of God.

Please be in attendance on Sunday, so we may continue to grow together in our unity and harmony IN Christ. See you there! ~ the Arcade Elders

  About Arcade Church

In one word Arcade Church is about CONNECTION. We are focused on connecting people to God and others that we might contribute to God’s mission of love. We accomplish connection through a simple discipleship process: knowing, loving, and serving. Our desire is that people would know, love, and serve both God and one another. To know God is to know His son Jesus which results in a connected life of love with others that compels us to serve our world.

Lead Pastor - Jake Larson

LIFEgroups
Arcade Church connects people through smaller connected communities called LIFEgroups. These LIFEgroups exist to be the church outside the walls and harbor a life of connection with God and others. Through these smaller connected communities we grow to know God more intimately, to love God deeply, and to serve him wholeheartedly. In return we come to know, love, and serve one another.
Gathering
There is great energy and power when the body of Christ unites together. In an effort to recognize the larger family of God at Arcade Church we meet weekly together. Our focus is expressing a life of worship. Our gatherings are an offering to God in which we communicate in prayer, listen to and study the Bible, apply truths to daily life, and connect with one another. We also gather on Sunday mornings for more in-depth study through our LIFE Electives Ministry.

Children & Students
A person who builds his or her foundation on the rock will not fall. Our desire is to build the foundation of our children and youth on Jesus. We recognize these individuals as the church of the future that is important and loved by God. In return our desire is to value and love our children and youth through focused relevant ministry.

Serve
We desire to be the church both inside and outside the walls of the church. We value the mission that Jesus gave up his life for—connecting people to God. We are a church founded on this mission and we will always be a church participating in this mission. Through various missionaries and local community connections we will build relationships with people that God’s love may be spread.

Happy Fathers' Day to the fathers of Arcade
Malachi 4:5-6

5 "See, I will send you the prophet Elijah before that great and dreadful day of the LORD comes. 6 He will turn the hearts of the fathers to their children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers; or else I will come and strike the land with a curse."

Please pray for God's grace, mercy and help to come to each father of our congregation. May truly their hearts turn to their children and the hearts of children to their fathers ... before it's too late.

Rod - Rod fell from a ladder yesterday afternoon onto his garage floor. Diane found him in a pool of blood! I just got off the phone with him, and he's doing alright! He had a laceration on his head that required 7 staples, a laceration on his hand that needed staples, he has also injured his shoulder. He is in a lot of pain and discomfort but CT scans showed all is well in his head but there is a minor separation in his shoulder. His spirits are good! His prayer request is that there will be no long term problems with hitting his head on the garage floor.

Thanks for praying!

Lee Toms Promoted to Glory!
Pastor Emeritus, Arcade Church

Pastor Lee TomsIncluded in the printed program of the Memorial Service for Pastor Lee Toms were the following words that he had penned:

“There has crept over my life the growing sense of having been sovereignly chosen to be among a band of the privileged called the prophet’s sons. Upon these frail shoulders He cast the mantle of ministry with the solemn charge to wear it honorably. That mantle is now folded and put into the loving hands of Him who conferred it. I am an example of commonness touched by grace.” Pastor Lee Toms

  Becoming a praying Dad . . .

Learning to Pray in the Spirit and the Word

Prayer is the breath of the Christian life. And yet almost nothing decays so fast in the fallen human heart as the desire to pray. Prayer is a means of God's grace designed to keep us from falling into unbelief, and to bring us safely to eternal life. Praying in the Spirit is essential for fanning the flames of your love of God. This is prayer that is guided by the Holy Spirit, and shaped by his Word.

your seed and her Seed…..

stomping the serpent Have you ever come across something that you’ve read many times but see for the first time with fresh eyes? And then in the following days, in quite moments, you find yourself thinking about it?

Well, that’s where I’ve been for the last week.

Recently I read, in last months Table Talk from Ligonier Ministries, an excerpt from Martin Luther’s Table-Talk no. 1659 in which Martin Luther stated that Genesis 3:15 was the greatest promise in the first book of Moses, as the Lord pledges that the women’s seed will bruise the head of the serpent. Yet, this promise was also foreboding as the Lord’s own will have their heel bruised in the war. Then there was this sentence that captured me - “No servant of God makes it through life without wounds from the seed of the serpent.” So off I went to Genesis chapter 3 to read again the first presentation of the Gospel in vs 14-16 and the curse in vs 17-19. –>
