The Arcade Creation Club is making an exciting announcement! God has just provided us with a wonderful miracle and opportunity. Yesterday, we found out for sure that our Club’s vision from God regarding holding a scientific event at a community site is coming to fruition. We have been working with Chemistry Professor Dan Burns, sponsor of the InterVarsity Christian Fellowship Club on campus. The Arcade Creation Club will be sponsoring the event described below as our evangelistic outreach into the local community. We want the pastors of Arcade Church to be able to participate in the blessings that God is showering upon us at this time.

Please do share this information with everyone that you are in contact with and feel would be interested. We also need your help in assuring us that the announcement written below for the church bulletin is published. This way, anyone in the Arcade Church body could attend one or both of the events who is interested.

This may be our only opportunity to present the Gospel of our great Creator, Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ in this public community college.

The Arcade Creation Club is sponsoring John Mackay, Australian Creation Research Director, who will present the Creation model of “Time and Design” and Sierra College Biology Professor Charles Darwin Dailey who will present the evolution model. at Sierra Community College, 5000 Rocklin Road, Rocklin on Thursday, March 27, 2008, 1:30 – 3:30 p.m. in the Fireside Room (cafeteria/student offices). John will also be speaking at Immanuel Baptist Church, 1424 24th Street , Sacramento, on Wednesday, March 26 at 7:00 p.m.. John Mackay will be speaking on “Dinosaurs, the Monsters God Made”. We would like to have as much participation by Christian college students in the Sacramento area as possible. It may be that a number of the Arcade Church college students attend Sierra Community College in Rocklin. We want to make sure that they have a special invitation for the Thursday meeting. Any of the other students from the various public or home school groups, junior high, high school and local community colleges or anyone else throughout the Northern California area naturally would be welcome and encouraged to attend. We hope that you will join with us in extending the invitation to these students.

We hope that you will join us in these miraculous opportunities that God has given the Arcade Creation Club and announce from the pulpit the opportunities that we are being given and that the congregation can participate and can engage in as well.

The Secret of Facing Every Situation ~ Dr. John Hunter

One of the greatest texts of the Christian faith is Philippians 4:13: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” (NKJV). This was Paul’s cry of defiance to a world that closed in on him from every side. The epistle to the Philippians is a most blessed letter which has brought strong encouragement to God’s people everywhere. It demonstrates Paul’s capacity to live above his circumstances through a strength that was not his own.

It should be a challenging thought to us today to consider what sort of letters we would write if we were in prison, with no real charge against us, but with no real hope of regaining our freedom. We would have every ground for complaint, every reason to grumble and moan about how we were suffering for the Lord’s sake. How strange and refreshing it is to read these words of Paul in Philippians and see the way he rode above the complaints. Far from being a tragic picture of injured spiritual innocence, he emerges as a joyous victor. Instead of making his letter a rousing call for special prayer support in his tragic imprisonment, he uses the letter to build up and encourage the faith of those to whom he was writing. She was the cutest "weenie dog" that ever was. Schotze (German for Little Treasure) was our family's delight. As a puppy she would get excited when the kids wandered through the house. With her ears pinned back, and her high pitched squeal, short-legged Schotze would run wildly from room to room trying to get their attention for some fun. In a word, she was adorable.

And smart? I've never seen a dog as smart as our Schotze. We taught her to roll over, sit up, go outside, and even speak. Really! Bryan, our second son, was convinced that he'd taught her to say his name, "Bryan," in a puppy voice. And you know what? It really did sound like she was saying his name! Okay, it sorta sounded like his name.

Eddie cut a hole in the brick wall and created a doggie door for Schotze, so any time night or day she could go out of the house to chase the squirrels in the yard, or stay inside the house in the den to sit near the fireplace. She had instant access. Anytime I would return home and enter the back door, our little Schotze would dance and twirl around and around in sheer delight. She loved us and longed to be in our presence. Well, you may think this is a strange analogy, but my intimate relationship with Jesus brings this kind of joy to me too. Experiencing his presence in prayer transcends any words available in the English language.

Some Christians seem to experience a much closer intimacy with God than others. Some appear to enjoy a reverent familiarity with the Lord that is foreign to others. Is it a matter of favoritism on God's part? No. The Lord doesn't have favorites, but he does have intimates. And Jesus invites you to be one of them. What are the benefits of this close fellowship with Jesus Christ?

My intimate experiences with the Lord have grown and changed through the years. So will yours. Jesus can't reveal everything to us at once; we grow closer to him over time. One of the joys of knowing Christ is the depth of communion we can experience. To be invited to constantly commune with Christ is such a privilege.

Communion reminds us of the Lord's Supper. It sounds rather formal and somber. Of course you can, as some do, experience a personal "Lord’s Supper." But I'm referring not to the ordinance, per se. There is so much more beyond that. I'm referring to the intimate fellowship we can have with Christ. Let me share with you, from my heart, several insights I have gleaned.

1. Relax in prayer. Don't struggle to perform. Relax and be yourself. Laugh, celebrate, praise and enjoy this marvelous, yet mysterious covenant relationship you have with Jesus.

2. Don't feel worthy? Don't take yourself so seriously. We all "blow it" at times. Loosen up.

3. Don't limit your communion relationship to prayer. Include devotional reading, Bible reading, praise and worship in your prayer times. Sing to him, brag on him; enjoy him.

4. You can't lead another to a level deeper of intimacy that you've not experienced. Develop your intimate relationship with Christ first before trying to lead others.

5. Do as I do, involve the Lord in your every day conversation. Assume his constant presence with you. Ask him to minister to people around you. Tell the Lord how much you appreciate revelation and counsel regarding the day to day situations in which you find yourself. Hey, you can ask Jesus to help you find a parking spot too!

My friend, pastor and author, Dutch Sheets explains communion this way. "Second Corinthians 13:14 says, 'The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship a/the Holy Spirit, be with you all.' The word fellowship here is koinonia and is rich with meaning, as can be seen in the following definitions: The word koinonia implies that the Holy Spirit wants intimacy with us. This very word is used in 1 Corinthians 10: 16 to describe the Lord's Table, the bread and the wine. This is appropriate since it is the Lord's shed blood and broken body that brings us into covenantal, intimate communion with Him."

"The Holy Spirit wants to commune with us. He has much to say if we learn to listen. He is the means to all revelation from God. He is the Teacher. He is a part of the Godhead we're to be in relationship with. Let him fellowship and commune with you. At times his fellowship with you requires no speaking. Some communion is heart to heart. At times I crawl up to God for a look. Just knowing he is looking back is enough. At other times he shares his heart while I'm gazing.

"There is an amazing picture of this sort of intimacy reflected in the following scriptures: The secret of the LORD is for those who fear Him, and He will make them know His covenant (Ps. 25:14, italics mine)."

"The words "secret" and "intimacy" are translated from the same root Hebrew word cowd, which means "couch, cushion, or pillow." Dutch Sheets, Watchman Prayer." (Ventura, CA: Regal Books, 2000), p. 153-154.

The picture is one of two intimate friends laughing and talking at lunch in a crowded restaurant, oblivious to their surroundings, lost in their conversation. Or it reminds me of my teen slumber parties. Late at night, we girls would put on our PJ’s, grab our pillows, and sit in a circle to talk, laugh, and tell stories. The Lord longs for this same kind of "snuggle-close" friendship.

When Minister Joe Wright was asked to open the new session of the Kansas Senate, everyone was expecting the usual generalities, but this is what they heard;

"Heavenly Father,
We come before you today To ask your forgiveness and To seek your direction and guidance.

We know Your Word says, "Woe to those who call evil good".
But that is exactly what we have done. We have lost our spiritual equilibrium And reversed our values.

We have exploited the poor and call it the lottery.
We have rewarded laziness and call it welfare.
We have killed our unborn and call it choice.
We have shot abortionists and call it justifiable.
We have neglected to discipline Our Children and call it
Building self esteem. We have abused power and call it politics.
We have coveted our neighbor's Possessions and called it ambition.

We have polluted the air With profanity and
Pornography and called it Freedom of speech and expression.
We have ridiculed the time Honored values of our
Forefathers and called it enlightenment.
Search us, Oh, God, And know our hearts today; cleanse us from every sin and set us free.

Amen!"

The response was immediate. A number of legislators walked Out during the prayer in protest. In 6 short weeks, Central Christian Church, where Rev. Wright is pastor, logged more than 5,000 phone calls with only 47 Of those calls responding negatively. The church is now receiving international requests for copies of this prayer from India , Africa and Korea Commentator Paul Harvey aired this prayer on his radio Program, "The Rest of the Story," and received a larger response to this program than any other he has ever aired.

With the Lord's help, may this prayer sweep over our Nation and wholeheartedly become our desire so that we again can be called "one nation under GOD”.

A Call to Repentance: WEEK TWO January 20, 2008

"PREPARING OUR HEARTS TO ENTER IN"

Part Two

WEEK TWO: January 20 - 26, 2008

Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me away from Your presence, And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me.

Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, And uphold me by Your generous Spirit. Then I will teach transgressors Your ways, And sinners shall be converted to You. (Psalm 51:10-13)

Last week, we invited you to join us in beginning 40 WEEKS OF PRAYER AND FASTING -- clearly a new depth of intercession and repentance in this New Year. Borrowing from a book by E. Stanley Jones, The Way, and modeled upon an initiative birthed in Sri Lanka through the ministry of Dr. Lalith Mendis, we began by preparing our own hearts to enter in. We studied the first five steps of Mr. Jones' ten-step program of repentance, as:

1. CONSIDER YOUR WAYS

2. CHANGE YOUR DIRECTION

3. CONNECT WITH CHRIST

4. CONSENT TO SURRENDER

5. CEASE FROM STRUGGLING

We now examine five remaining steps of repentance, redirection and renewal in Christ, thus laying the foundation for the work that lies ahead.

In coming weeks, we will then offer prayers of repentance for the sin in the church; the sin in our land; and the blessing of Israel.

Again our source book for today's teaching is The Way, by E. Stanley Jones, published in 1956 by Abingdon-Cokesbury Press, New York, pp. 74,75.

We wish to thank Gary Bergel, President of Intercessors for America, for pointing us towards this precious book, several years ago. Praise God.

6. CONCENTRATE ON ACCEPTANCE

A man who has become a world leader was defeated and discouraged and about to give up his work in India. He was sick in soul and in body. Then the verse spoke to him: "Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life." (John 4:3,14 NKJV)) He saw that this well of water within was a gift, began to drink by faith, and from that moment was completely changed. "I haven't had a discouraged or a blue hour in thirty years," he humbly and joyously testifies.

A dean of girls, inwardly tied up with fears and inhibitions and frustrations, sat reading these words: "If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed." (John 8:36 KJV)) She quietly let their significance sink in -- freedom was a gift which she could take. She did! "I felt like shouting it to the world!" she triumphantly said.

Faith is pure receptivity, alert receptivity, aggressive receptivity.

"O Christ, I come to Thee believing that Thou are completely trustable. I cannot trust myself. I am not trusting my faith, but my faith is trusting Thee. I rest my case, and myself, with Thee. Amen."

"For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God's abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ." (Rom. 5:17 NIV)

7. CLEANSE YOUR PAST

Make restitution where it is necessary or possible. I say make it where "necessary or possible" because sometimes it is not possible. There are things beyond your recall. Do not sped time in useless worrying over a past you cannot change. He forgives; let that suffice. He wipes it from his "book of remembrance." Bury it all at the foot of the Cross, and put "No Resurrection" over it. The past is buried. Even those continuing effects He can help you counteract and cancel, by starting new redemptive influences. He restores the years which the caterpillar and the locusts have eaten.

Some things it is not necessary to bring up. If more harm than good comes from bringing things up, let them rest, especially if they involve others. Do not develop back-looking conscience, morbidly mourning over the past instead of bravely facing the present and the future in His name.

But some things may have to be straightened out before you can go on. . . You may be afraid of making an apology, of righting a wrong -- afraid of what people will think about you. But only small people are afraid to apologize. "I'd die before I would apologize," said a telephone operator. To which the superintendent of the hospital replied, "Oh, I do that a dozen times a day. It's the easiest thing I do." Result of these two attitudes? The telephone girl stayed a telephone girl; the other woman climbed to the top. The telephone girl got caught in herself; the superintendent was released from herself every time she made an apology.

"O Christ, Thou hast forgiven that past, and where Thy forgiveness is, there can be no infection. But show me if there is left anything for me to do in righting that past ere we go on together. For I want no open wounds, anywhere. Amen."

8. BRING CHRIST INTO YOUR RELATIONSHIPS

Take the spirit of the Way of God into your total life. You have now one more set of relationships to bring into line with His Way -- your present relationships. To be a Christian is to be in Christian relations. Of course, that must be qualified: Do it as far as it depends on you, for other wills are concerned, and you may not be able to establish Christian relations with them. "As much as it lieth in you, live peaceable with all men." (Rom. 12:18) This is important, but we are to do the Christian thing even though the other person doesn't respond. Here are four areas to consider:

a) The home: Where there are points of friction, talk over things objectively. Try to see the matter from the standpoint of the other person. Project yourself in imagination into the very self of the other person and see things from his or her position. That will take sympathetic imagination. Don't confess the other person's sins; confess your own. That will beget confession in the other person. Even if it doesn't, you have done something to yourself; your peace has returned to you. Next, go beyond talking over points of friction and come together each day in a spiritual quest -- a prayer time together. In that prayer time you will be melted into common purpose and a common mind. In God you will become one.

b) Your daily occupation: That daily occupation can be the extension of your spiritual life, your spiritual life become incarnate in material things. Your Christian character can be registered in the work that you are doing.

c) Your relationships with the person next to you. Become a witness to the new life. Nothing is yours that is not shared. The simplest and most effective thing you can give away is just the thing you have received. Share it.

d) Your relationships with the Church. If you are not in the church, get in. If you are marginally in, get into the center.

"O Christ, I am beginning to extend Thy life and purposes into my contacts which are the extensions of me. Help me to create no longer in my image, but in Thy image. That will not be impossible if Thou are in me -- wholly. Come in, then -- wholly. Amen."

9. CULTIVATE THE QUIET TIME

Cultivate your quiet time -- preferably in the morning. We have talked about Christianizing your relationships; we come now to the central relationship, with God. When that relationship is intact, then every other relationship is toned up. If that relationship gets loose, then every other relationship goes loose with it. For the Christian, there is one responsibility and only one responsibility -- to keep in union with God. When that union with God is intact, everything flows from it. I know of no one thing that cultivates union with God more surely and constantly than the regular practice of the Quiet Time. If I have a Quiet Time, I have a quiet heart; but if the Quiet Time goes, the quiet heart goes with it. I can take it or leave it, but this is one of life's inexorables.

Close your eyes, drop into the silence of the heart, and then listen to God. He tells you how much time you can spend in the Quiet Time. Take the figure that fixes itself in your mind with a sense of approval, and start it. Pray by the clock. If it starts being mechanical, it will soon become medicinal -- it will heal your heart.

"O Lord, help me to be obedient in putting first things first, one day at a time. Please grant me the grace to create that space for You, early in the day, upon which I might then build. Thank You, Lord. Amen."

10. CREATE OUTLETS AND ACTIVITIES

The Way is an outgoing way. The first law of life is intake, and the second law of life is outflow. If you try to continue the intake without a corresponding outflow, it will all end in an impasse. The inflow will cease.

The outlets and activities do not need to be great and significant. They may be small and insignificant. But the fact that they represent an outgoing attitude and a sharing purpose makes them significant. For the law of sharing, which is the law of love, which in turn is the law of life, is in operation.

We now sum up the steps: Consider your ways, change your direction, connect with Christ, consent to surrender, cease from struggling, concentrate on acceptance, cleanse your past, Christianize your relationships, cultivate the Quiet Time, and create outlets and activities. Your feet are now on the Way!

"O Christ, how can I thank Thee enough that I am taking these ten steps to freedom. For I feel in my bones that this Way is the way to freedom. For my bonds are breaking, my heart is being released. I know that I am in the process of redemption. I am on the Way. Amen."

Shower Jesus with Spiritual Gifts

For most of us, the words "spiritual gifts" bring to mind God's gifts to us by the Holy Spirit--the gifts of teaching, giving, and exhortation, and the other four motivational gifts listed in Romans 12; the gifts of prophecy, miracles, tongues and the other six manifestation gifts listed in 1 Corinthians 12; the gifts of apostle, prophet, pastor-teacher, evangelist and the ministry gifts listed in Ephesians 4.

Not only does God give us supernatural spiritual gifts, but He is also gives us every physical gift: "Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning" (James 1:17). Health, food, clothing, family, friends, money and more are all expressions of grace from our "favorful" and faithful Father God continually showers us with gifts--both inwardly and outwardly!

It's not difficult to think how we can give back physical gifts to God--our time, titles and offerings are good examples of that. But did you ever stop to think that we can also give a spiritual gift to God? Can you think of one spiritual gift we should continually shower on Him?

You probably know where I'm headed now. I'm talking about an attitude of gratitude (see 1 Thess. 5:18). Unfortunately, if there is one grievous and besetting sin in America today, it is the sin of ingratitude. As I travel the nations, the places where God seems to be doing the most are among people who are utterly and outspokenly grateful to the Lord Jesus for even the smallest blessings. This--a heart filled with gratitude and praise for who He is--is the spiritual gift He desires us to shower on Him!

A wife asked her husband of many years if he loved her. He told her of course he did. To which she said, "Then why don’t you ever tell me?" Dryly, he replied, "Honey, I told you 'I love you' when I married you. If I ever change my mind, I'll let you know."

We often live like this clueless husband--forgetting that the greatest spiritual gift we can give to God is our love (see 1 Cor. 13:13). To love Jesus means that we focus our attention on Him and shower Him with our affection. Focusing our attention means that we merge His person and His will into every experience and aspect of our lives and our thinking. Because God does not change (see Mal. 3:6), if there is something we are doing or thinking that can't be merged naturally with who He is, then we need to change.

We can't continue to think and do what conflicts with who He is and who we are in Him. To do so will make us unstable, and instability in even one area of our lives will make us unstable in all our ways! James 1:8 tells us that "a double minded man [person] is unstable in all his ways." Loving God means that we focus on Him or incorporate Him into our lives so that we live totally for Him. We honor the Lord this way.

If we cherish the Lord, we will tell Him so. Don't make God your mind reader; He has ears! Just as He hears the prayers of His people, He also hears their praise. Only a God with ears would make birds that sing, puppies that yap, and donkeys that bray, and having done so brag, "This is good!"

God created you with the ability to verbalize and orally declare His goodness, grace and mercy. So speak your heart to Him. But can’t He read my mind? you ask. Doesn't Jesus know what I feel even before I feel it? Then what's the point of saying it?

The Father not only loves to hear the melodic tones of the sparrow, but His heart hangs on every word of love and praise you speak. It is like honey to His heart! The angels surrounding His throne must surely envy the look that appears on His face when He hears you say, "Thank you, Lord, for saving my soul. Thank you for your love and grace." With all the praise the angels can muster--and they offer Him praise day and night--that simple sentence of gratitude is one they cannot express and will never experience!

Another reason for speaking your praise aloud to God is that you need to say it. Matthew 12:34 says, "For out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaketh." Your heart and mouth are inextricably attached. They reveal each other. You are being transformed by the words you say. If you constantly confess the negative, then your heart will turn more negative. As you constantly hear yourself praise and thank Him aloud, your heart is changed! (See Rom. 10:17.)

Another reason to praise God out loud is to declare His victory to the whole spiritual world. From the day we were born we have been and will continue to be constantly monitored by both God and the enemy. Praising God aloud declares His goodness into the air where the enemy (the prince and the power of the air) can hear it (see Eph. 2:2.) God has destined us, His Bride, to do this (see Eph. 3:10).

Yes, we have a heavenly Father who continually showers us with all good things. But does He have children who think about what they can give to Him? What spiritual gifts are you offering to the Lord today? Even if you haven't a dime, the one gift you can consistently and continually shower on Him is the one gift He most longs to receive. A grateful heart of praise!

This week, as we prepare to enter into 40 WEEKS OF PRAYER AND FASTING, we need to take the entire week to carefully examine ten steps of repentance, redirection and renewal in Christ, thus laying the foundation for the work that lies ahead. Today's teaching is drawn from a book by E. Stanley Jones, The Way, published in 1956 by Abingdon-Cokesbury Press, New York, pp. 72,73. In it, Dr. Jones presents the first two steps: consider our ways and change our direction.

"What is Repentance and How Do I Do It?"

CONSIDER YOUR WAYS

1. CONSIDER YOUR WAYS

As we consider our ways, we must ask our Lord to shine His searchlight upon our hearts to reveal the sin that so easily entangles us. As we do so, we may be tempted to shortchange the full blessing of this step in three ways:

a) You will be tempted to defend yourself. Emotional attachments gather around the old ways. Had they not done so, you would not have been able to remain in them so long. These emotional attachments gather reasons around themselves to justify themselves, as a magnet gathers iron filings. We think with our emotions in very large measure. We rationalize our wrongs, give excuses for the inexcusable, try to bolster up impossible positions by propping them up with props gathered from anywhere. ONLY THE TRUTH CAN MAKE YOU FREE.

b) You will be tempted to justify yourself. You will do so by looking at the actions of others -- "Everybody does it." You are not going to dodge into that road with a dead end; you are out for reality. The conduct of others cannot be your criterion. Christ is. You are going to be a person and not a thing.

c) You will be tempted to fasten upon marginal sins. You will try to confess only those "small" items, but leave the central ones alone. You will probably try to keep the self intact, central, and controlling, while you confess to sins of anger and impatience. You may be selfish in your business relationship and confess personal sins.

-- These three attitudes may keep you from a frank, honest-to-goodness appraisal. The first step to release is complete honesty.

"O Christ, Thou of the honest eyes and the honest attitude, help me have honest eyes and honest attitudes, for I would be free. Amen."

2. CHANGE YOUR DIRECTION

There is no use going on in a wrong attitude, for going father in a wrong direction simply means that you have farther to come back to get to reality. Every step you take away from the Way of Christ wastes three steps -- the one in going away, the one in coming back, and the one you might have taken on the Way.

You will probably be tempted to make the "change" indecisive by one of three things:

a) You may be prepared to change in some things but not in all things. Ananias and Sapphira gave up everything to be Christian except one thing: they "kept back part of the price." That one part kept back was their undoing. . . You don't have to have all the known diseases to die; one will kill you.

b) You may be prepared to change everything, but only partially. You may cut down a habit instead of cutting it out. You may end up indecisively, leaving yourself neither here nor there. That will get you nowhere. All compromise will end in confusion.

c) You may be hindered from a clear-cut change by putting off the time of it. Augustine's prayer, before he was converted, was, "O God, make me pure, but not now." He wanted to be pure, but wasn't willing to bring it into the "now" -- which meant that he really didn't want it. For you do not want a thing unless you want it now.

"O Christ, I do not want to shirk, to dodge, to slur over, or to put things off. Help me now, to change completely my direction. For I cannot keep going -- away from Thee. Amen."

3. CONNECT WITH CHRIST

You will need His grace and power, and you need to have life centered in Him. You might give up sinse and still fail to be a Christian. For the giving up of sins is not an end in itself; it is in order to get in saving touch with Christ. The way of God is not negative. You are not a Christian because you don't do this, that, and the other. You are a Christian when life is centered in Christ and not in yourself. You are emptying your hands to grasp a whole Christ.

Here you may miss your step by one of these things:

a) You may change but change toward the wrong ones. Judas changed; he "repented himself," went to the high priests . . . Judas repented in the wrong direction. Had he gone to Jesus, thrown down the money, and said, "I have sinned," we would have seen the most remarkable reconciliation and restoration in history. Some turn toward their sins and mourn in useless regret. No release comes from that.

b) You may connect with an institution and fail to get through to Christ. The Church is wonderful as a place of worship and spiritual cultivation, provided you go beyond it to Christ. If your relationship to it makes you stop in self-satisfaction this side of a personal, saving knowledge of Him, it is a stumbling block. It leaves you at a halfway house this side of the way of God.

c) You may stop at principles and miss the Person. You may say, "I'll live by Christian principles," and yet not get into a warm, living relationship with Him. Your spiritual life will be a tense striving to live principles instead of a trustful fellowship with a Person, issuing in relaxed spontaneity.

Go beyond your sins, beyond the institution, beyond the principles to the Person. Then religion will be to you a long falling in love.

"O Christ, I see that I must not stop this side of Thee, for if I do, I stop this side of Life. Help me, then, to take the steps that lead to Thee. I come, with all my being, I come. In Thy Name, Amen."

4. CONSENT TO SURRENDER

Christ is Lord, not you. This is the crucial step. If you slur this over, then nothing will come out right. And the step is simple. Everyone goes into the shrine of the heart and bends the knee to something; something has the place of supreme allegiance. Some bow the knee to what others will say. they look around before they act. They don't act; they only react. Their god is public opinion. Others bend the knee to themselves. Self-interest is supreme. Their first reaction is: How will that affect me? Their god is self. We could name others: money, sex, ambition, fear -- any one of these may be the center of allegiance.

Everybody bends the knee to something. If so, I choose -- I choose Christ. I am not God; He is! I whisper the inner consent, the consent of abdication. He commands; I obey. From this moment I do not belong to myself. I let go the one thing I own -- myself. I am free from self-domination; I choose Christ- domination. I let go at the center.

A rich woman said, "I was afraid to surrender to God, for I was afraid He would drive my last cow out of the pasture." But when she surrendered, she found God's will was not only perfect love but perfect reasonableness. The cows were all there, only she and God were partners in raising them, and partners in their disposal. Life was a partnership, with God as senior Partner. She was released and free and effective. She was relieved that she was no longer God.

"O God, I lay down the burden of trying to be God. For I am not God. Thou art. So I yield to Thee the throne. I abdicate, now and forever. And am I relieved and released? I am. I'm grateful that I am now no longer centered in myself -- I'm centered in Thee. Amen."

5. CEASE FROM STRUGGLING

Don't try to do this yourself; let Him do it. After having consented to surrender, you will be tempted to struggle and try instead of relax and trust and receive. "When I gave all trying over, simply trusting was blest." There is a profound truth in this simple statement. For as long as you are trying, you are on the basis of yourself; but the moment you begin to trust, you are on the basis of Christ. He becomes the center, not you.

"But as many as received Him, to them He gave power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name: which were born not of blood [you do not receive this new life through being born of Christian parents], nor of the will of the flesh [you do not receive it by whipping up your will, by trying], nor of the will of man [no man can bestow it on you through rite or ceremony or institution], but of God." (John 1:12,13)

It is quite clear. This new birth which leads to a new life is a gift accepted by faith, by those who "believe on His name." But that belief is not mere intellectual assent; it is believing with your life, self-committal to Another. It means letting down the barriers of your inmost being and letting Him come in and take over, take over as the Sole Owner.

The two laws of life are receptivity and response. But first receptivity. Many reverse this and try to respond, respond, to try, to do. No, first receive -- receive by a quiet appropriating faith. Then you will respond, naturally and out of the resources which receptivity brings. But if you try to respond before you receive, you will be responding out of emptiness. Your religious life will be strain, hence drain. A theological student was tense and trying, striving hard to be good. His jaw was set, his nerves tense; he would be good at any cost. When I showed him the possibility of accepting the Gift, he seemed incredulous. But he relaxed and received, and rejoiced! He kept saying over and over, "Why it's too good to be true! All my life I've been fighting; now I'm receiving!" He was free, released, and happy -- overflowingly so. Faith is pure receptivity.

"O Christ, I come. In my hands no price I bring. I come claiming no worthiness. I have no right to anything, except grace. I have no right to that, except that Thou dost offer it to me. I take -- humbly, joyously take. Now. Amen."

"Be anxious for nothing, but in every thing by prayer and supplication, let your needs be made known to the Father. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, shall guard your mind and your heart in Christ Jesus." (Phil. 4:6,7 NAS)

DEAR DR. GRAHAM: Does the Bible say anything about making New Year's resolutions? I quit making them years ago because I never could keep them, but now that I'm more serious about my faith, I wondered if I ought to give it a try again. -- Mrs. R.Y.

DEAR MRS. R.Y.: The Bible doesn't mention making resolutions at the beginning of a new year -- but it does urge us to examine our lives regularly, and to seek God's help to become better persons every day. The Bible says, "Let us examine our ways and test them, and let us return to the Lord" (Lamentations 3:40).

Did you ever ask yourself why you found it so hard to keep the resolutions you used to make? One reason may have been that they weren't realistic, or you had no clear plan for reaching them. Many New Year's resolutions, I'm afraid, are little more than a "wish list" -- a series of things we'd like to change about our lives, but little more. They also may be very self-centered, with little thought about whether or not they are God's will.

Another reason, however, why we fail to keep our resolutions is because we seek to reach them in our own strength instead of with God's help. But we are spiritually and morally weak, and we will never be the people God wants us to be unless we turn to Him for the help we need. The psalmist wrote, "My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth" (Psalm 121:2).

As we begin this new year, pause right now and ask God to show you what He wants to do in your life during this coming year. Resolve to grow closer to Christ every day, and with the help of His Holy Spirit to "pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness" (1 Timothy 6:11).

Awaiting and Expecting Revival.

"Most assuredly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much fruit" (John 12:24).

Many New England believers are spiritually hungry and clamoring for revival, deeply aware that the Church in this region finds itself in a state of ineffectiveness and irrelevance. We are saddened by the culture's headlong rush away from Christian principles, and our inability to significantly influence developments in the cultural and political realm. At times, it truly seems that we live in a post-Christian world, and that Christianity in this country is fighting for its life, weak and on the defensive, consigned to the private realm and unable to effectively spread the gospel message. With some notable exceptions, most ministries in New England are not growing, and many pastors would probably admit to being disappointed with the present level of spiritual vitality evidenced in their churches.

The sons of Zebedee came to Jesus and asked Him to be allowed to sit one on His right and the other on His left when He sat in His glory, but Jesus responded, "You do not know what you ask." Instead of the shortcut to glory they desired, He pointed them toward the Cross, the only legitimate path to power and effectiveness in the Kingdom. (See Mark 10: 35-45.)

Many believers and congregations, like the sons of Zebedee, clamor for a shift in the spiritual climate in our region, and deeply desire acquiring spiritual power and influence, but may be somewhat naive as to the possible costs that may be involved in such a visitation. In my own experience, I have often found the path to personal or ministerial revival to be painful, messy and unpredictable. There have been times when I have almost regretted embracing the journey toward spiritual renewal, as God has set about to methodically crush my pride and self-sufficiency, thoroughly and publicly humiliating me and exposing my sinfulness, before blessing me with a measure of the vitality and effectiveness I so desired.

I suspect that when revival comes to New England, as has happened so many times before in history, it will arrive in a humbler, less attractive garb than we expect. When the Holy Spirit moves, He loves to upset the elegant, respectable scenarios we have concocted for Him to work in. Even before God's Spirit arrives in power, much breaking and dying will have to take place within ministries and congregations, in order to prepare us for revival. The theological neatness and the order we so love in staid New England will have to give way to humble openness, and a willingness to engage in actions and situations that will inevitably break us and make us feel uncomfortable.

As we await and pray for revival, may we have the humility and wisdom to engage in childlike faith, and submit to the humbling, unpredictable ways of God's Spirit.

Baby Update

Hi Everyone,

Most of you are aware that I started working for Jake as his assistant December 1^st. One of the areas that Jake has asked me to pull together is Communications. I just wanted to let you know what’s happening.

1) E-News will launch the second week of January and will be updated twice a month. The second and fourth week of each month. The E-News will be a newsletter with updates on ministries from the following people Tim Skillman, Matt Matzke, Jeremy Johnson, Jasen Ashdown and Jake Larson.

2) Arcade Web page is being worked on to bring it up-to-date. If you have additions/changes you need to get them to me by Friday mornings. The changes are posted on Mondays.

3) A new banner for the corner with Arcade Church and web address is being made to temporary replace the sign that had to come down to do the construction on the front of Marconi.

4) The bulletin is constantly being looked at for ways to improve communication.

5) Any design project you need please allow 3-4 weeks.

6) New Communication cards are being designed and should be out by the end of January.

7) Lifegroups will be launching new groups on January 13^th. New shepherds will be trained in January.

8) Lifelearning Electives will be launching new classes January 13^th.

9) A video is being prepared to show January 6^th to the congregation with all of the December outreaches in it. It will be a blessing to all.

10) A new Sermon Series begins January 13^th. It is called HeartSupport and the topics will be Depression, Addiction, Self-injury, Suicide and Eating Disorders. There will be a new Story Booth in the lobby for people to share their story on video or email. It will be really cool. We will have resources on the topics for people.

11) January 24^th is the stirring.

12) World Help and Children of the World Choir will be here on February 10^thfor both morning services.

13) Easter will be our trimester outreach and we are in the planning stages. It will be awesome!

Exercising Authority

First thing let me mention--today is my birthday. Yeah, getting older isn't always so much fun, but it's better than the other option!! I am 57 years old today.

I have always been a warrior. When I was a teenager, my friends nicknamed me Bulldog. Just as a bulldog will grab and hold the pants leg of its victim, I will take a prayer issue and hang on to it until I see something happen. However, untrained and undisciplined warriors can be a danger to themselves and to others--as I was during my earlier years.

In the 1980s, I began to research the history of the city in which we live. It soon became clear to me the nature of the spiritual darkness we were facing. My heart burned in prayer for Houston, America's fourth largest city. With the tenacity of a bulldog I sought the Lord, intent on finding out what territorial spirits held our city in their grip. Daily I begged the Lord for insight.

One winter morning during prayer, I felt the Lord speak to me about my city's spiritual condition. I sensed that He was telling me the names of the demonic princes that are the "puppet masters" assigned to carry out Satan's bidding. They rule in the affairs of men through wicked and deceived leaders.

Arrogantly (although I didn't realize it at the time), I began to bark at the principalities that hindered our city. From my prayer closet I zealously attacked them in fervent warfare.

"In the name of Jesus, you spirit of _______, I command you to get out of Houston. We don't want you here. I stand against your every scheme to steal, kill and destroy."

After several weeks of ranting and raving against these workers of darkness, their counterattack came against me like a nuclear blast. I came within 10 hours of dying from peritonitis of the spleen and liver. That's not all. Eddie and I had six major surgeries in 14 months, and three of them weren't covered by insurance. Our savings were depleted and we were on the brink of losing our home. With a growing family, a new baby, and a young church that had just lost its first pastor, I was in a terrible place. To the demons' delight, the church was struggling, our family was struggling, and I was struggling.

"And it came to pass," found 446 times in the Bible, is one of my favorite portions of Scripture! Thankfully, painful times do pass, and eventually the dust settled around us. I had believed that all of this persecution from the powers of darkness had come because I was such a godly person. Boy, was I wrong!

One morning, I was praying about all that we had experienced. The Lord spoke so clearly to my heart that I can almost hear the echo of His voice to this day. He said to me, "Alice, I told you the names of the spirits over Houston, but you never asked Me what you were to do with the revelation." I could hardly believe it! Now I know--diagnosis doesn't necessarily mean assignment! Knowing what is wrong, and being told to correct it, are two completely different issues.

Has Christ given us authority to deal with the enemy? Absolutely, He has! But the authority given to us is ambassadorial, not carte blanche. We are not called to be spiritual Rambos--an army of one. We are called to be disciplined warriors who explicitly follow the orders of our Commander-in-Chief and the Lord of Hosts--the Lord Jesus Christ. Our Lord's timing and assignment to the battle are critical. To engage the enemy without His direction is presumptuous at best. With the best of intentions, but with arrogance and pride, I found myself fighting for my life in a battle I had picked on my own. I repented to the Lord and then to Eddie. It was a costly lesson but one I will never forget.

My preacher husband often says, "We have two teachers in life: mentors and mistakes. We choose whether we will learn from our mistakes or from our mentors." I trust I am your mentor today. Please take this issue to heart and learn from this bulldog!

Knowing and Living the American Vision is the Answer

Peter Marshall spoke Sunday to the Master's - Adult Bible Fellowship. What an exciting time as he describe the true vision of why the United States States exists in the purpose of God. We are to be a visible example of what the Kingdom of God is to look like. We are made up of Men and women from every tribe, tongue and nation on earth.

Said Rev. Marshall: "This nation was founded by God with a special calling. The people who first came here knew that they were being led here by the Lord Jesus Christ, to found a nation where men, women, and children were to live in obedience to Him. . . .This was truly to be one nation under God." To make his point, he quoted from Columbus' then-unpublished spiritual journal and from the sermons and diaries of the Pilgrims and Puritans."

Obviously, the Church is not impacting our society as it should. We have lost America's moral and spiritual foundations. The Bible says: "If the foundations be destroyed, what shall the righteous do?" Good question! What indeed are we going to do?

I have two answers to that question. First, we must recover the original American vision, because the basic problem is that we have lost our identity as a nation - we no longer know who we are or why we're here. Modern Americans are appallingly ignorant of the fact that the spiritual foundations of this nation were laid by people who had a deep commitment to Christ and to one another. They were led here by the vision of a new society based on God's Word, which would be an example to the rest of the world.

Why does it matter that we recover this vision? The Bible's answer is: "Without a vision the people perish." It is thus vitally important that we learn the truth about our Christian heritage, and the Christian faith and vision of our forefathers. Simply put, if we don't know who we are supposed to be, we don't know how to fix things!

Second, the other essential step for our survival is for American Christians to put 2 Chronicles 7:14 into practice, because I believe this is the only way revival can come. That verse says:

"If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves, and pray and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and forgive their sin, and heal their land." (2 Chronicles 7:14).

We desperately need the Third Great Awakening - a spiritual revival of nation-changing proportions. It has happened twice before in our history. How can it happen again? This scripture clearly teaches that the burden of the country's restoration is placed on the Church--"my people"! Revival has to begin with pastors and local churches.

When God's people begin to seriously live out His call to repentance in 2 Chronicles 7:14, I believe that we will discover three main areas of "wicked ways" that we must repent of. If we deal with these, God promises that He will heal our land.

Notice that there seems to be a natural progression from #1 to #3, which makes up God's plan for revival and restoration (see Acts, Chapter 2).

Initially, we Christians need to repent for our shallow superficial "churchianity"-- our "feel good" resistance to facing our own sinfulness and relying daily on the cleansing power of Jesus to change our hearts. Modern American churches seem to focus on everything except the main point of the Christian life - daily seeking to abide in Jesus, and to be cleansed from sin and self.

Next, we Christians must repent for our lack of honest, confessional, and caring relationships with each other in our fellowships and churches. The New Testament calls for us to confess our sins to each other (James 5:16) and "wash each other's feet" (John 13:14-15), the way the Early Church did. But most bodies of believers are not living with each other in these ways, for if we were, the Church would be impacting our society with the restoration of Biblical values as the Early Church impacted theirs. Sadly, the Church is not often being the Church!

Finally, we Christians must repent for decades of non-involvement in the society around us. Because American Christians have lost the Biblical vision of the Church reforming society, most of us are still in a defensive posture toward the world around us, whereas Jesus calls us to take the offensive. He tells us to go into all the world with the Good News of the Gospel. We must recover the zeal of our evangelical forefathers, who in the 19th century began new ministries to every social problem in the nation! When Christians begin to build together a new life focused on Jesus as Savior and Lord, they experience an explosion of outreach and ministry and mission from their midst. The New Testament teaches that ministry comes out of a shared life in Christ!

Is there hope for America? Yes! Turning things around doesn't require every citizen's response. God promised Abraham long ago that He would spare Sodom on behalf of ten righteous people, a tiny remnant. But our national healing will not automatically happen just because we pray for it. If we American Christians truly respond to God's call, we may yet see the nation-wide revival that will restore America. But the hour is late, and we must respond quickly.

If you think it's a good idea to sacrifice (in other words,
to kill) a boy in an effort to destroy God, then you will
love the Golden Compass (the first in a series of three
popular books) that has recently been made into a movie.

I like science fiction, and I've read a lot of it. A few
years ago I read the Golden Compass. At first I was
impressed by the vivid writing and creative story line. As
I read, though, I began to sense that something was wrong
with the book.

However, I was completely unprepared for the ending in
which one of the major characters imprisoned and then
killed a boy as part of a plan to challenge and eventually
kill God.

It was the most horrifying example of child abuse I have
ever read in literature, yet the killer was portrayed as a
heroic person trying to destroy God. What at first seemed
to be a creative and compelling story line descended into
well-written evil in which child-murder is portrayed as a
way to gain spiritual power, and God is portrayed as a
horrible being.

The producers of the soon-to-be-released movie version of
the Golden Compass have removed some of the most evil parts
of the book. They say, however, that if enough people pay
to watch the movie they will make two followup movies that
are more "true" to the books.

Consider carefully the message you would be giving to the
producers by paying money to watch this movie. Consider too
whether or not this is the type of message to which you
want to expose yourself and your children.

A Bad Family Movie!

A movie called the "Golden Compass" will be coming out in early December, aimed at children and labeled as a family movie. This movie is based on a series of books by an atheist British author (Phillip Pullman) whose goal in writing the books is to lead children into atheism. He said in a 2003 interview that his books are about "killing God". He hates C.S. Lewis's Chronicals of Narnia and has written a trilogy to show the other side.

The main villains in the series of books are the Magisterium, Cardinals, and the Pope, and includes a heroine that is a young girl who sets out to kill God. The truly sick thing about the movie is that they have made it APPEAR as if it is an innocent film, with exciting effects and a fairytale story. They have removed from the movie the appalling anti-Catholic/Christian themes from the book. The goal of the movie is to hook unsuspecting families into viewing the film so that children will then want to read the books (and probably buy merchandise) . Nicole Kidman stars in it.

ARCADE VBS + Special request from Daniel Henderson

This week is VBS at Arcade and most of the pastors are involved in one way or another with VBS. Please pray for them as they work with the children.

Vic got to be a Rabbi for Monday and Tuesday and teach the children about the "Shema". The "Shema" is the verse in Deut 6:4 "Hear O Israel, the LORD, our God, the LORD is one." Also included in what the Rabbi taught the children was a little bit about showing God respect by wearing a head covering when in the synagogue, what the Torah is (first 5 books of the Bible, or the Law), and to listen to what people were saying about Jesus this week and ask God the Father if this information about Jesus is true.

Pray for the children and the workers at VBS this week, and our pastors as they continue to work at balancing their time between God, their family, and their job.

Dear Praying Friends,

Some of you have heard that one of my closest life-long friends, Pastor Gary Aldridge, has died. It appears he was murdered but the investigation continues. For 15 years, he served as Pastor of Thorington Road Baptist Church. His body was found Sunday morning at his home after he failed to show up at church. His wife has been in North Carolina caring for her ailing mother. Gary was asphyxiated and had been dead for several days. The news story can be found HERE .

..A special service will be held Wednesday for the Rev. Gary M. Aldridge, senior pastor of Thorington Road Baptist Church who was found dead at home Sunday.

Please pray for us as Rosemary and I fly to Montgomery, AL to help officiate the service on Thursday morning-- that God would use us to bring comfort and grace to his wife Jan, the church family and the community around Montgomery.

At the same time, we will be missing some important events here in Minnesota for which we are sorry. Strategic Renewal is involved in the national convention of the Evangelical Free Church of America, held at Grace Church. We are hosting a pastor’s luncheon on Friday. Pray that I will make it back in time and that God will help us as we recruit extra help for these days, in my absence.

God has clearly brought us into unity on what he is calling us as a church to do and be about. This is nothing new, this is what the church has always been about, is about, and will always be about. Isn't this exciting? God's vision for the church has never changed and yet he has brought us along, re-clarified his vision in our context, and given us all we need to accomplish his purposes.

In summary: Arcade Church is about connection with God and others. We believe in a triune God (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) and just as God exists in connection with each other we are to live in the context of the trinity ourselves. We have been invited to connect with God the Father and to be a part of his family with the Son and the Holy Spirit. This is the most important and vital connection of our lives. It is through this connection that we are connected to one another. This connection with one another is as brothers and sisters within the same family of God. Together as we are connected to God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit and one another we reach out and connect with our world as servants. This is the mission of the church. Through our identity in the family of God and our connection with one another we will connect with our world in a profound and impacting manner. Does this get anyone excited?

Pastor Jake will be teaching these truths this Sunday from Deuteronomy 6:4-6, Matthew 22:34-40, and Matthew 28:19-20. This is what life is all about and this is the lifestyle of the church, the people of God.

Rod - Rod fell from a ladder yesterday afternoon onto his garage floor. Diane found him in a pool of blood! I just got off the phone with him, and he's doing alright! He had a laceration on his head that required 7 staples, a laceration on his hand that needed staples, he has also injured his shoulder. He is in a lot of pain and discomfort but CT scans showed all is well in his head but there is a minor separation in his shoulder. His spirits are good! His prayer request is that there will be no long term problems with hitting his head on the garage floor.

Have you ever come across something that you’ve read many times but see for the first time with fresh eyes? And then in the following days, in quite moments, you find yourself thinking about it?

Well, that’s where I’ve been for the last week.

Recently I read, in last months Table Talk from Ligonier Ministries, an excerpt from Martin Luther’s Table-Talk no. 1659 in which Martin Luther stated that Genesis 3:15 was the greatest promise in the first book of Moses, as the Lord pledges that the women’s seed will bruise the head of the serpent. Yet, this promise was also foreboding as the Lord’s own will have their heel bruised in the war. Then there was this sentence that captured me - “No servant of God makes it through life without wounds from the seed of the serpent.” So off I went to Genesis chapter 3 to read again the first presentation of the Gospel in vs 14-16 and the curse in vs 17-19. –>

Dear Friends,

Tomorrow we get on a "jet plane" and leave for a three month home assignment in CA & OR. These two great years of seeing Albania become a sending nation have brought great blessing and joy to us. Though Albania is less than 1% evangelical it is sending out three trained teams of ten each to do a Caleb Project in a neighboring nation. The results along with a CO based group will help mobilize people around the world to pray and go to this very needy country (MAC). Many churches have been trained through Perspective type materials called Kairos. Kairos is actually a condensed Perspectives course. Out of their poverty they are giving and waiting on God to supply all of their needs to go to places that still have never heard the Gospel - to least reached places particularly in the M~~lim world. A twenty-four prayer chain is in place to pray for the Caleb Project over the next five months. Isn't this amazing?

We look forward to sharing with you in person the wonderful things that God is doing in this small country. We will be living in Pasadena and traveling within CA in June & July. After Lydia's wedding on August 4th, we plan to be up in OR around Aug. 8th for ten days. Should you want to get together drop us an e-mail. We should be back in e-mail contact by Sunday. Thanks for your great participation in our lives that allows us to partner with the Albanian church!

Wonderful Praises to the God who can Do The IMPOSSIBLE!!!

1. Yesterday, we finished our first school year of preparing seven students for cross-cultural service. What a year!

2. The students went through a thorough interview process this last week by our five pastors. Larry says, that they were recommended for the two month Caleb project with flying colors. They are released to work on support discovery.

3. Pirro and Liliana have been recommended to long term cross-cultural service.

4. Our church in Korça has committed 10% of their budget to cross-cultural service.

5. Last Sunday, the pastors commissioned with laying on of hands, Dori & Sabina to lead up a CCC university team in a strong M~~lim neighboring country.

6. This Sunday, Dr. Patriot also will be commissioned by our church to go for the next two months to Cebu, Philippines for a community health development experience with Medical Ambassadors.

7. Each worker has five Korça believers committed to pray for them while in cross-cultural service.

8. Fifty-two youth are volunteering to serve 5 full days a week in outreach and discipleship this summer in the Korcha area.

Praise God for Financial Blessings - from Mota's

In February we provided a financial report indicating that the finances for the ministry had become critical. We indicated that our operating income between 2005 and 2006 had decreased 18.9%. At the same time the continuing devaluation of the US dollar relative to the Brazilian Real was eroding the available funds to an expanding ministry.

Immediate Challenge?The immediate need was to increase the monthly giving to $14,000/month, an increase of $4,000/month to maintain the ministry at the current level. In addition, these was a need to restore the operating cash by a minimum of $40,000 within the next 60 days.

Response of God?s People?As of April 30 WorldVenture had received $41,387 in special one time gifts. Several individuals and churches have indicated that an additional $23,500 is being sent to WorldVenture this month resulting in almost $65,000 in one-time gifts in response to our urgent appeal. Praise God!

Regarding our need to raise $4,000 in monthly commitment to the ministry the results are not as encouraging. We have confirmed commitments for about $850/month of additional funding of the ministry. We are continuing to focus on the need to raise commitments of additional $3,150/month plus money to compensate for the further devaluation of the US Dollar. This has been further complicated with an additional 4% devaluation of the US Dollar in the two months which will require an additional $500/month or $3,650 per mo. With the first goal exceeded we have a few months to focus on raising monthly commitments.

Pastor Jeremy Johnson - his mother NEEDS prayer

I just received a call from Pastor Jeremy. He is currently driving to Los Angeles to be with his mother, Barbara Johnson and his family.

At this point, all Jeremy knows is that his mother has suffered a major stroke. He does not know any other details, but will let us know when he knows more. His request is for safety as he drives to Los Angeles this evening, planning to be there around midnight, his mother and her health, and his family as they gather for mutual support for one another and for Barbara.

Television evangelist Falwell dies at 73

LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Rev. Jerry Falwell, the television evangelist who founded the Moral Majority and used it to mold the religious right into a political force, died Tuesday shortly after being found unconscious in his office at Liberty University, a school executive said. He was 73.

Gentlemen (and ladies reading this too)

Thank you for your continuing prayer support for our pastors and Arcade Church.

There are a few prayer opportunities most of you are not taking advantage of that we would like to remind you of:

Sunday morning at 6:15AM – Worship based prayer time for Jake, the morning services, the people attending, and all ministries that will be happening on campus that morning.

During each service, in the staff lunch room – Worship based prayer time to pray for the speaker of the morning, usually Jake, and all that is happening in and during the service.

There are many other opportunities for corporate prayer at Arcade. Please join in with one of these prayer times if you are not currently meeting with others for prayer on a regular basis.

PASTORAL STAFF PRAYER REQUESTS

Jeremy Johnson – Praise God for continued healing in my foot. Pray that the gout would not be a long term problem and pray for wisdom in sorting priorities.

Jake Larson – Pray for continued development of shared vision, growth through BWGI (Becoming What God Intended) series and our annual golf fundraiser.

Igor Dronov – Please pray for my family, my friends and me as we are going to make some changes in our life group ministry. Pray that all God has on His heart we would accept and implement.

Rod Fendall – Pray for Diane and I as we drive to Seattle for a 10 day vacation.

Pray for Elder Retreat

Please pray for the Elder Retreat - it starts this evening and continues through Saturday. The Elders will be meeting locally and together with the pastoral staff are seeking to know God's heart and further direction in His work at Arcade. So thank you very much for praying.

Pastor Toms - 2/28 Weaker. Cannot walk and confined to wheel chair. Left side failing. Mind is sharp.

Monkey Record - Kaiser/Roseville. Surgery - colon cancer. Doing better. May be home 3/20 or 21.

Bruce Coulter - 3/13 Manor Care for rehab. 3/16 Infection is gone.

Naomi Johnston - Mercy General, Rm. 448. Gall bladder operation 3/21 (moved).

Elen Hintz - Rare blood cancer, shingles, neuropathy - In a lot of pain.

Mary Kugelman - 3/21 Tube inserted in lung to remove fluid.

Getting into Routine of Physical Therapy...

Nancy came home as expected and is getting into a routine of doing her physical therapy three times a day. Her therapist will come to the house Monday, Wednesday and Friday for a few weeks. She is very pleased with her progress. She said her right knee is stiff (I'm still experiencing stiffness in my left knee after my last surgery 8 months ago) so this is pretty normal.

Continue to remember us in your prayers as we wait on Him for his leading and direction
The Koinonia Adult Fellowship is supplying evening meals for a couple of weeks so this is very helpful and appreciated. I haven't burned anything down yet and no food poisoning as of yet.

Pray that Nancy will get her rest during the day; also her back is still borrowing her. We're hoping this improves with more time and therapy. The surgeon actually made one of Nancy's legs longer so we're praying that this will help her back.

Pray for God to expand our appetite for Him. Pray that for yourself, your spouse, children, our congregation, and in other congregations across our city.

God is no respecter of persons. He did not respect the Azusa Mission any more than the finest cathedral in the world. It is not the place that impresses Him, but the heart of those who come. Is there a hunger for the Lord?
